Pride and Prejudice has a
representation of the feminism in Elisabeth even though the novel was created
in the 18th century. It is true that she does not say it and surely she does
not consider herself a feminist but the way she acts, giving respect and valuing
herself, is not typical for a girl in the 18th century.
Feminism is not a bat concept like
sexism is. The thing is that feminism has borned to fight against sexism, a
social issue that is associated with past. Thanks of feminism; society in
developed countries has done big advancements. We can see it in the advertisements,
in the governments, in the law... However, there is a long way in front of us
if we want to eliminate definitively the sexism. If I have said some places
where we can see the improvement, I have to say too that we still can see the
sexism in these places: the cleaning products are always announced by women,
the governments are more represented by men and we can still see some
prejudices associated with people sex.
To conclude, feminism has been a positive
movement and we need it to stay in our society if we want to continue advancing
and we don't want to return to the past.
